A Legend is Born - At the turn of the last century Alfred Heurich, a young architectural student developed and patented a folding kayak made out of wood, bamboo rods and a canvas 'skin'. The inspiration for his design originated from the centuries old Inuit kayaks fashioned out of animal hides, wood and whale bones.
1905 Master Taylor, Johann Klepper buys the rights to manufacture the kayak
1907 Klepper Folding Kayaks is founded in Rosenheim, production begins
1909 C.E. Layton – Paddled across the English Channel
